Minimum Wage Raised to $14.50 on July 1st

At smaller employers - with 100 or fewer employees - in Minneapolis, the minimum wage went up on July 1, 2023 to $14.50.

Don't forget to adjust payroll and check paystubs beginning in July!

And, remember, The minimum wage for large businesses - over 100 employees - increased last January and is currently $15.19. It goes up again next January for large businesses.

Starting next summer in July 2024, there will be only one Minneapolis minimum wage. It will be the same for all employers moving forward. The distinction based on size will disappear, as small businesses will reach the same rate as large businesses. Both will then rise together every January.

Coverage depends on the physical location (in the city of Minneapolis) of the employee while the employee is performing work, regardless of the employee’s age or training.

Employee Rights

Employers must display and distribute the Employee Notice/Labor Poster and issue a written, prehire notices (in electronic or printed form, including Spanish if needed) to all employees at the start of their employment.

Sick and safe time (or other equivalent leave) must be accessible, and accrual information must be displayed on paystubs.

Compliance with paid sick leave and wage theft prevention laws is now required across the state of MN, just like in Minneapolis.

Employees have a legal right to receive full, accurate and timely payment of all wages earned for all hours worked.
