Learn more about our Next Level MSP legislative proposal

The Lake Street Council - in partnership with other Twin Cities organizations - is currently asking the Minnesota legislature for $400 million to support local business recovery efforts through a Next Level MSP legislative proposal.

This legislation will not only make a positive generational impact on Lake Street and its future, but on other historically diverse economic and cultural business districts, including West Broadway in North Minneapolis, the 38th Street and Chicago Avenue corridor in South Minneapolis, and Saint Paul's Midway neighborhood.

The full $400 million financial commitment would be truly transformational. It could serve as a significant way to begin the healing process of past systemic neglect by providing easier access to resources and stimulating long-term economic development.

Of the $400 million, this proposal would make available up to $25 million for the following organizations and commercial nodes to support local businesses and provide strategic direction:

  • Destination Northside and Northside Economic Opportunity Network

  • Lake Street Council

  • 38th Street United Coalition

  • Midway Chamber

The additional $300 million would be available specifically for redevelopment and building improvement projects within these economic and cultural business districts.

As our communities continue to rebuild and recover from civil unrest, historic divestment, and institutional barriers, we believe this legislation would make a powerful impact. You can help by asking your legislators to invest in small businesses and Lake Street's recovery by supporting our legislative proposal this year.
