Financial Literacy Support

The Lake Street Council’s Financial Literacy Support Program offers financial literacy courses and technical assistance. Our courses are geared to help entrepreneurs gain a better understanding of managing their finances, connecting them to resources or partners, and helping them grow their businesses.

Through the Lake Street Council’s Financial Literacy Support program, small business owners can gain the knowledge and skills they need to succeed financially.

Details

  • For one-on-one support, Lake Street Council staff will sit down with small business owners and start by looking at FICO scores and connecting entrepreneurs to credit-building programs.

  • Our staff can analyze their bank statements to understand how they are managing their finances and identify areas where they can cut costs. We also guide how they can save money using digital banking services and apps.

  • For those who need to open a business bank account, we offer assistance in finding the right account and connecting them with a banker.

  • We also educate entrepreneurs on different bank products that could bring in investments, and connect them with a financial advisor who can thoroughly go through the different options available.

Eligibility

  • Eligible businesses and nonprofits are located within the Lake Street corridor, which is defined as the area bounded by West River Parkway on the east, 26th Street on the north, the border of Minneapolis and St. Louis Park on the west, and 34th Street on the south.
