As our community continues a period of new challenges and uncertainty in 2025, I want to assure you that the Lake Street Council will continue to serve ALL the businesses, diverse communities, and people who call Lake Street home. Our mission, vision, and values remain unchanged.
The staff and board of the Lake Street Council recognize the commitment and investment of the business owners, employees, building owners, and nonprofit leaders who make Lake Street special. We want to hear from you about how we can best support you during yet another difficult time.
No matter what changes are happening around us, we will prioritize the needs of our small business community.
We will meet this moment by growing or introducing the following programs:
We will help businesses that are seeing a slowdown in foot traffic find ways to use digital marketing and online sales to boost their business. Apply for marketing help from local marketing businesses that speak English, Spanish, and Somali here.
In April, we will launch a major marketing campaign to celebrate our community’s diversity and encourage people across Minnesota to explore Lake Street and find their new favorite local business. If you and neighboring businesses have a joint marketing idea, apply here for financial support.
We have contracted with local businesses that provide expert advice in accounting, credit card processing, insurance, and legal to help your business or nonprofit. Apply for advising support here.
Investing deeply in the cultural events, art, murals, and community connections that make Lake Street unique. To apply for a mural or to get sponsorship for an event, apply here.
Supporting community safety efforts and enhancing Lake Street livability. We have recently brought on board a Lake Street Community Safety Navigator, who can help your business respond to security and livability challenges. We have also contracted with 6 providers to focus deeply on livability and violence prevention as the weather heats up, providing street outreach, case management, and violence interruption through the end of June.
I invite you to deepen your involvement with our community and with the Lake Street Council. We can all be more successful by working together. You can:
Commit to supporting other small, local businesses in your purchasing and contracting.
Be a cheerleader for Lake Street. Use the #VisitLakeStreet hashtag to highlight the positive things happening at your business and at your neighboring businesses. Ask your fans to shop locally.
Let us know if you are willing to share your story in media interviews.
Consider serving on the Lake Street Council board or a committee.
