Support Lake Street businesses during
B Line road construction

This summer, East Lake Street in the Longfellow neighborhood is under significant construction to prepare for the B Line, a Bus Rapid Transit line coming to Lake Street in 2024 that will feature better stations and faster, more frequent rides.

This project is also replacing many intersection curb ramps to make them ADA-accessible. Furthermore, at the end of the project, the roadway will receive a pavement upgrade and get restriped with a new layout intended to calm traffic and reduce crashes.

No matter the project, construction is always difficult for businesses, and it's not uncommon for businesses to see a significant drop in customers when there is construction. There aren't grants or public funds available to offset these losses, so it can be a tough time.

If you love local businesses like Hymie's Records or Galapagos Bar & Grill, the best thing you can do for them right now is show up and support them during construction. We promise you - the small additional effort it will take to navigate the shifting lanes and parking will be worth it!

Curious about more details on construction, or wondering what the new roadway design will look like? We've posted more detailed information for businesses and the broader community here. You can also find more info from Metro Transit here.
